End of May, who’s to say
Hit and Miss #456
Hello! Straight into links today, as my brain / body don’t seem to be rowing in sync:
- Buried in the good-news story that OC Transpo is returning to double-car service on the LRT is the nugget that the LRT will return to 5 minute frequency (from 3 to 4 minutes during the single-car service). Enough serviceable trains for double-car service is good, but reduced frequency sucks. Crowded cars are no fun, sure, but more frequent service helped immensely to make the service feel reliable. When you can just show up and shortly catch a train, there’s less rushing, and fewer missed connections. It makes transit feel imaginable. Look, I’m glad to hear that the new OC Transpo GM takes transit (shouldn’t be a news story, but alas), but I wonder how much more often he’ll miss his connection to St-Laurent while riding in slightly less crowded cars.
- Straight out of Kentucky, Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Co. is making all sorts of stringed instruments, introducing woodworking to folks in recovery.
- Cool video of interior-glazed butter bell pottery, where the lid and jar are fired together, then coaxed apart with a mallet!? (From Miriam Suzanne, whose site colophon is delightful.)
All the best for the week ahead!
